Frequently Asked Questions

How much is it?

The whole evening is £8. That includes the beginners lesson, the Intermediate lesson  the repeat beginners lesson and all the practice time in between  and after the lessons. We also operate a loyalty scheme, which means after 6 visits, your seventh is free. We accept cash or card payment.

Where do the classes take place?

We meet every Wednesday, at The Civic Hall, Holmfirth, HD9 3AS
7.30 – 10 pm. We do have a few Wednesday’s off – Art Week, but you will be kept well informed.

What shoes do I wear?

Just wear something comfortable. You will be doing a lot of moving about, so make sure your footwear is comfortable. Later if you want to you might invest in some dance shoes which tend to allow you to slide/glide a little easier.

What do I wear?

Wear what you are comfortable in, but you may get very warm, so layers. Advisable, not a big wooly jumper. Some do like to get glammed up when we have a freestyle dance. All the glitz comes out then.

Do I need a partner?

No partner needed; you will meet up with a new group of friends. If you’re an absolute beginner when you arrive, we will pair, you with a more experienced dancer to help you on your way. We find this is the best way to start your journey.

What style of dance?

MJ which is a blend of latin, ballroom, jive and others.

Who teachers?

We have an established group of experienced teachers who rotate.

Do I need experience?

No, most certainly not.  We teach absolute beginners to the most experience. We were all beginners once and everyone is welcome. Come along and join in the fun.

Is there a bar?

We do not have a bar; we sell water at 50p a bottle or you can bring your own drink with you.

What type of music do you dance to?

The music can be anything from 1940’s swing up to modern day chart music. Dancers’ requests are considered and catered for. A large variety of genres are suitable for our dance style.
