About Holmfirth Jive
Our background
When it was announced in December 2010 that Summerwine Jive was to be no more, a group of us decided to do something about it. We were concerned that Holmfirth would be losing a valuable asset and so formed VibeJive in February 2011. Monies raised are either ploughed back into the club or donations are made to charities. The name VibeJive has existed since its inception in 2011, however, the Committee decided for a change recently and with a new website and new branding Holmfirth Jive was decided on giving a more community spirit.
Style of Dance
The style of dance is loosely based on various types of dance including a little latin, some ballroom, some modern jive and others. Most importantly, we are here to teach fun dance. Fun exercise and a way to meet socially and make friends. You don’t need a partner, you can dip in and out as you please. Learn at your own pace. It’s dance for absolute beginners, we’ve all been beginners so we know how you feel. Come along and have a good time.
Our Community
We are a very friendly dance group who love to dance and socialise. Friendships are formed here and become as important as the dance we all love. Most of us then meet up at other dance venues – its brilliant. We make everyone welcome and more experienced dancers help new members. We tend to get new members most weeks, so no need to feel inhibited, just come along and join in the fun. For more advanced dancers, we are sure you will find our Intermediate sessions challenging whilst entertaining.
Following on from our dance evening, for those who do not want the evening to end, some of us usually end up at The Postcard Inn across the road – it has become a Holmfirth Jive tradition! All are welcome, its very light hearted and a great way to wind down, have a laugh and put the world to rights!.
No Requirements
No special clothing is required and no special shoes (initially) – just be comfortable!!
No partner is required – you’ll meet plenty of people to partner up with.
No experience required – when you’re ready or after approximately 6 weeks you’ll be moving onto intermediate!!
Dance Nights
Every Wednesday, we start a beginners lesson at 7.30 pm where you will have the option to stay fixed with a more experienced dancer until 8 pm. At 8 – 8.30 pm there is freestyle when you will be able to practice the moves of the lesson with other partners, or watch and observe other dancers. 8.30 – 9 pm at the same time as the Intermediate class, beginners lesson are repeated with more emphasis on technique and any ‘sticky points’ encountered during the main lesson. 9 – 10 pm Freestyle, practice this week’s moves with others. Dance!
Future Plans
As Holmfirth Jive moves forward we are always trying to reflect what our members tell us and thank them for their continued support. We do this by bringing in a large variety of guest teachers, subsidising Freestyle events, offering a loyalty system, upgrading the sound and lighting system when required.
